Satcom C-4 Replacement- 4/27/04
We have received notice that Satcom C-4 which is used for the
transmission of MTV Networks services is nearing its end of life as it
was originally designed. After almost 12 years of flawless performance,
Satcom C-4 will be replaced at 135 degrees west longitude by AMC-10 in
the early hours of the morning on May 4th, 2004. SES Americom
successfully launched the replacement satellite, AMC-10, from Cape
Canaveral on February 5th and has completed all of its in-orbit testing
to confirm reliable service.
Thus, in the early hours of May 4th, SES Americom will coordinate a
transition with all programmers that currently use Satcom C-4 and move
their transmission to AMC-10. Since MTV Networks will be exchanging the
same transponder frequency and polarity, C-Band customers will not be
required to make any adjustments or changes to their satellite
receiving equipment. MTV Networks expectation is that C-Band
subscribers should experience nothing more that a momentary glitch as
the transition from retiring satellite to the new replacement satellite
is completed.
The MTV Networks services that will be affected by the transition to
AMC-10 are:
Nickelodeon East Analog Feed - Transponder 3
MTV East Analog Feed - Transponder 17
VH1 East Analog Feed - Transponder 23
