Satellite never arrives at the right spot when changing satellites.
Here are some things to check: (note: Please read all four
parts before checking anything)
.
Common Issues:
- The sensor inside of the motor is faulty. Over a long period of time, moisture
may get inside of this sensor and the result is that the sensor occasionally
looses a few counts while the motor is moving to your respective choosen
satellite. The lifetime of sensors is very vast. Some last as long as 8 years
while some die off in 2 years. Sensors are normally very easy to change inside
of a motor (tiny toob like structure underneath a rotating magnet wheel) and it
is always a good idea to change the sensor every two years.
- One thing to observe when changing satellites is what satellites you always have
to re-adjust! Do you have to re-adjust one particular satellite, two, three or
all of them? This is important because if there is only one particular satellite
that needs adjustment then it remains to do a quick reprogramming of this
satellite (most receivers have this convenient feature built in). If you have to
alway re-adjust every satellite you go to then you have to do what is called a
satellite re-sink. Re-sinking means that you adjust one satellite, then you tell
your receiver to move all of the satellites at the same time to there respective
positions around the satellite you adjusted. What this ultimatley does is that
when you change your satellite in the future, it will arrive to the proper
position (you re programmed all your satellites at the same time) this is a very
powerful tool. If you bought your system in the past six years chances are you
have this feature built into your receiver. Before you do anything you should
look at your receiver manual on more descriptions on what satellite re-sinking
does and how to execute it properly.
- Some of the bolts on your Dish may be loose. The bolts I am talking about are
the ones on your mount (which is what supports your dish to the pole). Loose
bolts are common for dishes not arriving at the right satellite position. You
need to go to your dish and give it a small shake to see which bolts are causing
a play on your dish. Take the neccessary wrenches and tighten these bolts untill
your dish is firm when shaking it. This is usually caused by the weather (strong
winds) and can not be escaped. You should always check your dish every year for
loose nuts and bolts.
- The pole may have moved (especially if you have winter months). Check this by
taking a level and seeing if the post is flush or not. If it isn't flush and you
have an adjustible pole then put it flush (Pole should always be level). If it
is cemented and it moved, you would have to have adjusted the tracking and
declination (angle adjustments on mount) of your dish. Do not
do this yourself, call your local dealer and have them check it. When
installed, both the tracking and declination are preadjusted according to a
flush pole. You can try cable straps (similar to what they use on telephone
poles) to level your pole. Either way consult your dealer to have your pole
checked.
